New Day New Year 2026

Opportunity and possibilitiesNew day, new year. 2026 is here and most of us start January with resolutions and multiple goals on all the opportunities and possibilities in front of us. We make a magical list of what we want to achieve and start out highly motivated and determined to accomplish everything.

But unfortunately, by February, statistics show motivation slips, the schedule we set isn’t working, and we quit making progress.

We mean well with our goals but need to be strategic to accomplish them. Life happens so setting specific times in your schedule to get things done is essential. And don’t forget to create buffer zones and flexibility. Don’t get stuck in the planning phase and not take the needed steps to get going.

Make Time for the Important Things

Today is New Year’s Day and a fun football watching day with family and friends for me. But I still made time to write this post and comment on X. Eating black eyed peas for good luck and prosperity in the new year has been a southern tradition in my family for years so it’s a must have on New Year’s Day. So I had to fit in making my black eyed pea relish. If you don’t know the history of eating black eyed peas for good luck in the new year the story is fascinating.

The quote someday is not a day of the week” is often attributed to Janet Daily and other authors like Sam Horn, who wrote a book with that title. Lot’s of inspiration in this book. You can even get a journal to go with it. Someday is an imaginary day and a huge roadblock and excuse to never get started on your goals. Don’t let that be you.

Another good book on eliminating excuses and developing self discipline is “No Excuses” by Brian Tracy. This book is as helpful today as when it was first written. I often gift this book to others at the start of a new year as it is easy to read but can make a huge impact on your thinking.

Someday is not a day of the weekWaiting for a perfect future moment (someday) means delaying life, happiness, and progress indefinitely. Every day and every week that goes by without some action becomes time lost towards achieving your goals.

Tools to Help You Accomplish Goals

Habit trackers are a great tool so you can visually see your progress. Check marks, a big X, or coloring in the little squares on the tracker can motivate you to keep going. If you miss a day, just keep going. I enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day but wanted to cut back to improve my health so I used my habit tracker and set a goal I wanted to reach. Habit trackers work and I highly recommend them.

Another good way to help stay on track is take time every week to reflect on what you accomplished, what you need to do next, and celebrate small wins as you go along. Writing it down is a powerful practice so put it in your journal or planner.

Sharing with an accountability partner or group will help you stay on track too. Accountability can be done online or with a phone call if that works better for you. The key here is to stay focused on the goal of accountability and not make it an excuse/complain call.

So these are the things I am thinking about today and hope they will be helpful for you too. It’s a new day, new year 2026 and you have the capability to create the life and business you want.
