Remedies for Fear

Remedies for FearWe are all living in very uncertain times right now. Scary times. We need remedies for fear. Many of us have had our lives completely disrupted with loss of income, illness and even death. My heart breaks for every loss.

If you are spending your days glued to the news and social media you are even more stressed out. And stress isn’t healthy. Fear may be overtaking your life.

I want to focus on encouraging you and empowering you with some quick remedies for fear. Give these ideas some consideration for how to overcome fear.

How Do I Get Rid Of Fear

  1. You have been through tough times before and not only survived but thrived. Remind yourself how capable you are. You are resilient and you do have mental toughness. Give yourself a pep talk and don’t spiral down into negativity. Fear doesn’t want you to thrive and lives in negativity.

  2. Tough times don’t last forever and neither will the fear. Taking action steps on any goal, even a tiny step, takes your mind off the fear. Do you have a project you’ve been putting off because you felt you never had the time to do it. Maybe it seemed so huge you purposefully put it off. I just reorganized my pantry. Not perfect but vastly improved. I’m completing a digital online course that I got behind on. When you are busy being productive you don’t focus on the fear. Fear loves distraction. Proper focus eliminates it.

  3. Reach out to others any way you can. One of the benefits of our digital world is even if we can’t see each other in person we can use social media, email, text, Zoom and Skype. And so much more. I am walking every day and waving to my neighbors keeping our 6 feet distance during this social distancing. Fear hates connection.

  4. Gratitude trumps fear every time. I’ve long been journaling and usually use my morning to list gratitudes. But I just learned a different approach from award winning author Rachel Hollis. In her book “Girl, Stop Apologizing”, she suggests listing 10 things you are grateful for at the end of the day, not the beginning. The idea is you will spend your day looking for the things you are thankful for and therefore you find them!! Love that plan! Even something as small as a great cup of coffee. You get the idea. Being grateful banishes fear.

  5. Focus on all things you can control. Your daily routines and your attitude are powerful for defeating fear. This is no time to hide under the sheets…OK maybe for a day…but instead set the example for yourself and others by being your best self. Others are watching you, whether its family, friends or colleagues. Be the leader. It’s empowering! Fear hates a powerful person.

Please remember we all experience fear. Indeed it’s a normal part of life. Yes, these are extraordinary times, where fear is magnified for so many. Try a few of these strategies. These remedies for fear are working in my life and I believe they can work in yours too.

Stay safe and comment below with any ideas you have about fear. I would love to hear your input. Let me know if the gratitude strategy Rachel Hollis suggests is working as well for you as it does for me.
